Daily dose of inspiration

Listening to music has been my number one go to at work for the longest! I thought it was taking me to that creative space but that changed once I finally clicked on the podcasts app on my iPhone.

Well first things first, what’s a podcast? It’s like a radio show where people are sharing their knowledge with you for free! It’s having access to people you admire ,it’s loads of inspiration and you can’t help but get your creative juices flowing! Here I’ll share my favorites:

The potters touch/The alternate on one place

Hearing TD jakes and pastor tony Evans speak in my ears every week is so encouraging! I love listening to them because they’re the friend that truly wants the best for you and they tell you in a way where you have no excuse for being stuck.

Dave Ramsey show

The people on here sharing their debt free stories are awesome and dave’s advice to financial freedom is contagious to where you’ll start working on ways to be debt free as well.

Support is Sexy

This podcast is full of ladies that support each other in their businesses. The interviews are amazing and helpful for those looking to go in similar paths.

Kingdom driven entrepreneurs

Ok there’s like a million businesses but when I found this podcast I had to subscribe! Its doing business God’s way , sharing how they started as an entrepreneur as well as share , and it’s all fun!

Life &Dentistry

First, I love their sense of humor but most importantly I love the topic.. dentistry! The guys just graduated dental school so they share their life experiences as well as interesting cases they handle at work. This podcast is so awesome!

Dreams in drive/ Side hustle pro/ The minority trailblazer

Ok, this trio is the best ever! The first podcast I ever listened to was an episode on The minority trailblazer and that opened my mind to the world of podcasts. I love Greg hill’s energy when he interviews guests, he’s passionate about making a change and helping others to do the same. Dreams in drive podcasts are very thought provoking. The way Rena asks her questions you can’t help but connect the dots to your story to focus in on your purpose. Then there’s Side hustle pro podcast . Nicayla makes business sound so interesting . This podcast is full of information on how to get started in your business and it’s not overwhelming.

I have French /Spanish podcasts, research, tech, etc but I just wanted to mention a couple that I listen to as my daily dose of inspiration , enjoy!

Adjusting to higher altitudes

I don’t have a fear of heights, its just adjusting to higher altitudes. Being on airplanes are fun until my ears start popping and  hearing shifts temporarily . It’s worth being uncomfortable in those few minutes because I’m usually excited for the destination.

IMG_1284 I wonder where does the fear of heights come from? Is it the fear of falling ? Or maybe being on a higher level compared to staying on ground , where it’s comfortable?  A few weeks ago I went on a ropes course at WonderWorks. I thought it wasn’t high, I mean I’m a roller coaster girl! However , once I walked up the steps and made my way at the top I was afraid! It seemed like everyone was breezing through the course except me . I had a harness for support but when I would look down and see people looking /walking pass, my fear started to form into the question “what if I fall on them?” Also, in every direction the ropes had a different design meaning I couldn’t go through each obstacle the same way.  It took a lot for me to get through the ropes course but I managed to get through lol.

Faith is the same way. God is like “I got you” just like the harness  had me . Instead of walking through what looks impossible we get distracted and what God was trying to teach for a moment ends up being a journey instead.

Another activity I did was indoor skydiving! It was fun but of course knowing me there was a process smh. I had braids (lots of them) which made it uncomfortable to wear their helmets. Eventually, they gave me a different style helmet to fit some of my braids , awkward. The cool thing about this activity was we received brief instructions and then the moment to ‘just do it’. No time to second guess and question, just do it.

My first leap into the air tunnel was a mess. I couldn’t think of the correct form my body needed to stay in so it felt like I was flying all over lol . The instructor kept telling me to relax and I thought I was but I guess he saw differently. I leaped again into the air but this time it was different. I remembered what the instructor taught me and then I begin to relax by clearing my head, going with the flow.  My husband even said there were a few times the instructor let me go to fly by myself!

How long did you have an idea and the Lord said “Just do it!” ? Maybe he gave clear instructions and you felt you needed time to process what he was saying. I had an idea on something and it seemed like I was taking forever just “researching “. I finally started putting my plans into action and let me tell you the first time was a mess. However, I’m learning God is with me and all I need to do is relax and go with the flow. Now it’s your turn..

The Perfect Potluck

If I don’t remember anything else from my first job after college , it is potluck dinners! We had potlucks for birthday’s, people leaving, holidays, you name it and there was a list of what everyone was bringing.

Usually people would bring a different dish to the table and it complimented the other dishes. For instance , if someone brought chicken another person had vegetables and together the food fulfilled its purpose. Since everyone would bring something different there was no room for comparison but the goal to serve each other.

Imagine the food brought to the potluck as God-given gifts instead. Everyone’s gifts are prepared to serve others not just themselves. Could you imagine everyone bringing the same type of food to a potluck? How boring would that be?! I guess God thought the same thing and made certain that we each have unique gifts. One thing I’ve noticed at potlucks , sometimes two people would bring the same dish but the tastes were different based on how they were prepared. I’m learning it’s similar to answering your call in life. Your calling can look exactly like someone else’s , which makes it easy to compare because you already know what the result should look like. However, God prepares us differently and it ends up being hard to compare yourself.

In the perfect potluck , God has blessed you with gifts that compliment another’s gift. You’re being prepared in a different way compared to your Facebook friend so you can’t compare the process. In the perfect potluck, you’re there to serve and fulfill his purpose.

The Waiting Room

You’ve arrived on time for your checkup appointment and pretty excited because you know the time you sit down you’re going to be called. You already gave the receptionist the necessary paperwork and you’re ready. Hmm.. they will call me soon, you think to yourself, so to help pass the time you start to notice your environment. The waiting room is filled with people that need to be seen as well.

One by one, everyone is being called to the back and it’s starting to get frustrating because there were people that did not have to wait as long. Your frustration builds to anxiety and now you’re going up to the front desk asking questions. They reassure you that the doctor will see you soon, he’s preparing some things for you; however, your patience grows thin. Your phone goes off from people sending messages asking,”why are you still waiting ?” “When are you going to move forward?”

gallery-1455721780-lead

You don’t respond because they wouldn’t understand. You did everything you were supposed to, now it’s your job to wait and be called. Finally realizing your pacing back and forth is not changing the outcome, your attitude changes while you wait. You take advantage of the wait by embracing small opportunities like reading the magazines or checking your email on your phone. Time goes by but you’re gaining wisdom and understanding. You stopped focusing on the messages, the people that were seen by the doctor before you, at that moment the door flung open and you knew the wait was over.

door-240x300 How many of us had moments like this? We ‘wait’  anxiously for God’s big call while overlooking small opportunities to grow. I know this is a challenge for me but as a father, God, constantly reassures he will not forget about me. It may seem like everyone is moving forward before me but God knows I did everything I was supposed to and now it’s my job to wait for the door to open.  So stay encourage and know that soon our wait will be over 🙂

Just Do It but how?

I’ve seen Nike’s, Just Do It ,logo for years and would associate it with working out. Stop complaining , put on their clothes , and just do it . Seems simple enough but when I started hearing this same phrase applied to other areas in my life , I ask how?nike_just_do_it_wallpaper_smoke___paintball_effect_by_ryanr08-d4h54qcRecently I’ve been getting the same response everywhere including podcasts I’ve listened to but until yesterday I believe I finally have my ‘but how?’ question answered.

According to Think and Grow Rich Chick , she came up with 5 ways for making goals do-able , so I’ll just paraphrase what I’ve learned.

  • Goal setting requires a deadline and commitment

-Make sure your goals aren’t wishes . Create realistic deadlines

  • Believe it’s possible!

– Eliminate any doubts that may enter your mind

  • Find your ‘rabbit’

– Think & Grow Chick used the example of track and field when the person running the fastest (rabbit) is closely followed by the 2nd place runner. The ‘rabbit’ is the one setting the trend.

-Whatever is your goal there is someone that already achieved it so instead of being jealous take note of what they do . Being consistent is key!

  • 501129-04beccdfb2e6e114597fbf47aff40d83

  • Find Puzzle pieces

– Break down your goal to 5-10 things and find out what it takes for each puzzle piece

-Choose what you can work on at the moment and continue everyday

Where’s your outlet?

plugIn general ,the electrical outlet is used to connect an electrical device to an electricity supply. Just about everything we use requires an outlet : cellphones , computers, TV, etc., etc. Your cellphone is charged and ready to be used for a couple of hours then it has to let you know it needs energy. The same is applied in our everyday lives. Energy is drained constantly from work, relationships , or  just going through the day in general  and that’s when we ask , ” Where’s my outlet?”

Growing up I loved being to myself ( still do !) , I had friends but it was something about my ‘me time’ . I had a lot of moments where I didn’t feel pretty enough and got picked on . Besides crying to my mom and friends I needed a place to vent that’s how my outlet to write started. I used my imagination a lot and it introduced me to poetry. As I wrote my poems helped me to clear my emotions and become creative. I guess it even compliments to my blog today :-).  My next outlet I love to have is music. Music for me takes me to another place and I use it a lot at work lol ! Pandora , my best friend, helps me get into a productive mood and it seems to help me move faster depending on the song. Another outlet that gets me into a better mood , Instagram. I follow a bunch of Ig’s comedians and I just watch their short clips when I feel like laughing . Playing tennis is my favorite outlet after a long week of work . After a few hits back and forth it not only clears your mind but it’s a fun way of working out ! Last but not least , the outlet I use everyday is spending time with God. I have to speak to him before I start work and later during the day . He gives so much of himself I feel charged and ready for whatever the day is bringing. Besides speaking to him , I like to study scriptures and read devotionals . While I feel I may be giving 40% , like a cell phone battery, he in turns gives so much more .

So your outlet(s) can be a number of things , just make sure you stay connected to your source of energy!

A Fresh Start

I love the drive people have at the beginning of the year on social media pages. Goals of staying healthy, building financially , and staying focused are the popular topics as I scroll down the pages. As for me I learned a lot in 2016 and through my experiences it helped to mentally prepare for 2017 journey. I hope this can help you as well , enjoy 🙂 !!

Stay on the path God equipped for you

A lot of us have goals for this year but may not have the best plan to achieve them . As a result it may seem easier to imitate others .. what I’m learning as I discover my purpose in life is that God equipped us with different skills for our journey . So its ok if you have a nail and I have a hammer , our purpose is still to build even though we don’t have the same tools! The cool thing is he’s in charge of your map and can guide you when you ask for direction.

The go-to people

Being quiet actually is a good quality to have especially when choosing your team of success. Just think if someone wanted to meet you but had to meet your friends first , you would/should want friends that not only reflect but compliment your character. People of excellence is what everyone should want in their corner.  They advise from their level of ‘expertise’ ( financial, spiritual, relationship, etc). People I may know through dentistry may be limited to ‘academic advising’ , my pastor is my ‘spiritual advisor’, and the list continues.  Having these people in designated areas of your life limits opinions and provides a strong foundation as you build . Remember plans succeed with many advisors.

Staying consistent

I had a schedule that consisted of  spending time with God,  working , eating, working out, watching tv, and going to sleep Monday – Friday. I complained how I didn’t have time to  work on my goals for a while especially last year! Oh, the woes of my inconsistency ! I waited and waited for an opportunity where I could find time to work on my craft and instead a year flies by lol  :-/ . Work  on your craft after work everyday is what I’m now telling myself. Every minute is a result of the decision you made to either be productive or to procrastinate. I used to wait to workout in the gym on Saturdays because I didn’t have time to go during the week now its everyday at home/gym. Want more money? Well I’m learning after you tithe , pay yourself . It may not seem like much but it will start to accumulate . I also learned consistency was the key for applying for jobs. I applied for a lot and noticed job sites posting at certain times . The only way for me to see a trend was to go through the process of applying and rejection.  Staying consistent is not easy , well not for me , I need motivation .  I like to have an award system for myself . Say I studied and retained the information for the week , well that Saturday I may treat myself for the movies. Same as working out , when I consistently work out and eat healthy during the week that Saturday I may have a cheat day.

I hope what I learned in 2016 will help us both as we take over 2017, Happy new year!!

What’s your S.T.O.R.Y?

Did you grow up thinking you would move straight into your purpose but instead you’re feeling bound to one area in your life? Well I’m here to say you’re not by yourself . I’ve joined this adventure where I’m learning more about myself as well as gain better understanding of what God wants me to do.  After graduating from college I noticed a trend with the jobs I accepted. The agenda of the job had similarities even the small detail of where I sat was all too familiar. In my current position my coworkers sit in the office part of lab while my cubicle is located in the actual lab surrounded by raw materials ( the ingredients listed on the back of your lotion, body wash, etc). When I first noticed this I said to myself, ” what a coincidence !” but is it a coincidence ? or is it the way you view the situation?

Without a doubt my passion is in dentistry so why am I getting skin care jobs? Could it be the best route to build my character ? Am I doing more in dentistry than I had imagined? Could the reason why I’m seated around raw materials be to spark creativity and curiosity? Since the past two months of discovering myself , I just started reading this awesome book called , Cure for The Common Life, by Max Lucado. It’s all about finding your purpose and even though I’m not finished reading I highly recommend! One of the things he mentioned that I wanted to share is finding your S.T.O.R.Y, here’s what I mean:

Strengths: What are your knacks? What do you do naturally  where it’s hard for others?

Topic: Once you know your verb look for nouns. What objects do I like working with? Animals? people? This can be as abstract as an idea or concrete as fruit.

Optimal Conditions: What are the factors that trigger your motivation? Love to respond to a need? Motivated by problems? or predictable routine? clear defined structure or open ended possibilities?

Relationships: Think over your moments of success. How did you relate to people? working as a team or functioned better alone?

Yes: what makes you say you were made to do this?

It may take a few seconds to figure out your purpose while it takes others (including myself) a little while longer and that’s ok! Reflecting from your past up to your present takes time . No matter where you are currently know its not your resting place. You were created to do more than just one thing! We already have the tools we just have to perfect our skills before using them. Stay encouraged 🙂

Are you in your element?

five-elements.jpg

In certain cultures you'll find five essential elements, while others may claim four,
whichever is the case, every element serves its purpose. One element's purpose may be
to create and destroy while another is to replenish. Each understands its role
and operate in their full ability. Now let's translate this to everyday life>>
Do you recognize your purpose in someone's life?
For myself, I recognize that I bring joy to others. I have a pretty upbeat
attitude , smile all the time ,"Minnie Mouse" voice , and a sense of humor that
makes people laugh even when I'm serious. I'm sure as time pass I will be able
to recognize other areas God will allow me to excel in while helping others.
After recognizing my purpose I began observing the people in my life and what roles
 they served.
th50XA53E3This was/still not an easy process for me but it becomes easier over
time thanks to God! I was once very naïve with my heart on my sleeve, but
over time my observation skills upgraded and I started noticing patterns of behavior
that consistently took advantage of me. I started distancing myself from certain people
along with deleting contacts from my phone, yayyy :-) , lol ! Now with my smaller
circle I have individuals for spiritual advice, dentistry, marriage, and etc.
Prov 15:22 says "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed".
It's very important to know the type of people you have in your ear and what you can
offer as well.

Let's operate in our elements , beautifuls!
