My 1st lyft experience

I’m not sure what numbed my nerves and gave me confidence to become a lyft driver especially being an introvert! I just remembered being anxious from not working and YouTube videos of Uber/Lyft sounding cool and I was up for the challenge. So I applied,  submitted my information , and a few days later I met with a mentor so they could give me a heads up on things and evaluate my car.

A couple of days flew by ..maybe a week or two and I finally got the notification of being approved to drive, yayyy! Full of excitement and readiness to chauffeur the world , I switched my lyft app to ‘online’ to let people know I was available. I then decided to look at YouTube videos of the do’s and dont’s with lyft . Within 20-30 mins. of being ‘available’ I received a pickup request!  All of my excitement went away and reality reminded me of the fact ” you do know you just made yourself available to pick up strangers in your car, right?” I immediately switched my availability off …for like a month lol .

I know , why go through the emotions ? Well , I liked challenging myself to converse with people and it was a different kind of experience . So one Saturday I finally decided to move forward with the process. I picked up two ladies that were on their way to a college football game. On the way there they mostly talked amongst themselves which was great for me because I didn’t know what to talk about and I wasn’t a big sports fan. The last few minutes we spoke about marriage and the ‘stress tooth ‘ ball I have in my car that reminds me to stay focused on dentistry. Very random but smooth first lyft ride! I recommend for all my brave introverts :-)!

chemist

Background Story::  I’ve always wanted a relationship with chemistry…  I mean a true relationship, but we couldn’t see eye to eye on things.  I thought we would be dynamic at the beginning, however that’s when chem started showing their ego side: organic.  That’s when I felt us going our separate ways.  Time passed as a histo tech and I could not get chem out of my mind.  I seeked advice from counselors, dental committees, and they gave me a few options including how great it would be to show our relationship was a success no matter how many times I tried…

So, I’m back trying to make the relationship work, and this time when I see their ego I can not give up this time.  I’m not sure if it’s the formulas or my one way of thinking in the past, but chemistry has been a struggle for me.  Since I decided to give a 100% of my focus towards this relationship without a doubt I needed to pray.  Pray for strength , change my way of thinking , and make chemistry fun to learn!  The funny thing is that I didn’t think God would take this prayer seriously until…

I received a job offer at a cosmetic company as a cosmetic chemist!  As a cosmetic chemist I will be able to formulate skin, hair, and makeup products.  Even though I’ve just started I must say  it’s a great job and its involving chemistry! Now that God has given me this opportunity to use my creativity and  see another side of chemistry I know it won’t be hard to fall in love .

100 applications & 20 interviews later..

It’s true. It’s getting close to a year of me applying to jobs. I’ve applied to over 100 + job applications and had about 20 interviews! Who does that? Well, this girl. Don’t be like this girl!

I knew after receiving my DAT scores and the talks I had with dental schools I wasn’t free from my job. I couldn’t quit because my bills and future always reminded me of the relationship we shared. I couldn’t go back to school to retake classes , at least not yet , so I became focused on getting a job with higher pay and flexible for school.

I applied for everything I thought I would qualify for! I knew some of the best positions were posted early in the morning and I knew companies usually request for  interviews Tuesday-Thursday. I had all kinds of interviews. I started realizing rather quickly I didn’t put much thought in applying . For example, I had an interview to basically test water including sewage ..SEWAGE!! yuck ! Another interview I had was for a lab. The lady explained her role and how they used animals to test medical devices , like pace makers. As she went on she then mentioned how they don’t go on lunch sometimes depending on the case

This is where this awesome book called 40 Days to the work you love , by Dan Miller changed my thoughts as well as my actions.

Mr. Miller encourages you not to be stuck mainly by asking thought provoking questions and sharing stories of individuals who were once stuck on their job. One of the things he mentioned that stuck with me was how he defined: job, vocation, and career. At the end , I was thinking ” wow, I’ve been stuck because of my thinking” . I limited myself on certain job applications and my vision didn’t reflect in some of the jobs I applied for.

I don’t want to share too much because I think you will enjoy this book just as much I did by reading it yourself. If you don’t have time to go to the library , no worries just downioad this awesome FREE app called OVERDRIVE. It’s basically an online library ! just search for this title and you’ll have the option to borrow the book as an e-book or audiobook.

It doesn’t take 100 applications and 20 interviews to get to the next level in life sometimes it just takes a renovation in the mind…
