Diy wedding dress

Yayy!! I finally have my diy wedding dress!! Just so we’re on the same page this diy is not a do it yourself but dont intimidate yourself , lol. Let me tell ya weddings are /can be expensive and my vision in life isn’t on the cheap side either! So that being said , one of the exciting moments for a future Mrs is getting that special wedding dress.

I watched bridal shows , picked up on dress lingo and felt like I had it all in the bag except for one thing….money. I started going to different bridal shops and it was overwhelming with beautiful dresses. Even though I didn’t have the money to get the dress I really wanted I knew I couldn’t show that to the consultants , I needed faith and a poker face .

So when they asked for my wedding dress budget I gave a higher number so that I would have more options because I knew the discounted dresses were more of the same style . I also made sure to ask questions while I was in the dress so I could shop elsewhere. Questions like ” what size is this dress?” ” tulle or organza ?” Etc etc

I later found a dress that complemented my slender shape and everything! The consultant thought I was getting the dress . As she walked over with a poster and bell she asked ” so do you say yes to the dress?!” I smiled staring at myself and said “oh no no ” lmbo. I was frustrated because I needed money .

My wedding planner gave me the idea to look into online dresses but also said because my time is winding down it may be a risk. My options were few and I took that chance. I started researching and my grandma looked as well. We had to sift through the scam sites and find one that was reliable, that was when I found preownedweddingdresses.com .

This awesome site worked wonders for me. You can filter by size , silhouette, price , color , you name it and I’m sure they got it. After stalking the site for several days, my grandma found a Maggie sottero dress for $200! I contacted the seller and basically interviewed her for a couple of days ( I have to make sure lol ). I asked for more pictures of different angles, asked about the material of the dress , condition of the dress and everything. Luckily, the lady was patient with me because I knew I asked over a million questions. I finally paid through PayPal and received the dress about a week after . It’s just like the photo , needs a little bit of alteration but it’s beautiful!

So wherever you’re at in life, remember God’s got your back and when you don’t have a logical way to get from point A to point B use your faith .

Dental Office matchmaker

Once the thought formed in my mind creating the vision then traveled to my mouth to say “I want to become a dentist” , I knew from that point I would be in for a treat.  You have to prove how serious you are in becoming a dentist through your test scores, grades,  involvement throughout the community including shadowing dentists.

Shadowing/observing dentists not only shows how committed you are in the dental field but it helps in knowing more about yourself  and if you could really see yourself in that career. I actually enjoy shadowing , it allows me to observe how dentists interact with patients of all types of personalities . I get better insight on some of the dental procedures, when dentists recommend surgery or some kind of procedure its not to get your $$….

thM39E83HSIts actually because they see things we’re not able to see with our own eyes . On the other hand , I went to some dental offices to shadow and I felt like I was in the way.

thZ95ZY5G3This is how I feel sometimes when I arrive in offices where there’s about twenty dental assistants and hygienists . Something simple as observing how dental offices are managed can be overwhelming at times . Constantly saying excuse me , asking patients for permission to observe their procedure , dental staff all of sudden  invisible (in the ’employees only’ break room) , and you’re left standing like a lost child at an airport . Can’t find the dentist because they are running from room to room and closes their office door to make certain you don’t interrupt their moment of silence..  did I mention how much I like shadowing?

It was not until I found my dental office match made in heaven ! It was a pediatric office and from experience with other kid dental offices this one was perfect in my eyes. The dentist kept the same amount of energy throughout speaking with her staff , children, and their parents. It was a decent number for the dental staff but I didn’t feel out of place or didn’t belong , it was just peaceful. I love being hands on so I appreciated the invitation to assist in keeping some of the children calm . I think if more dental offices had this type of atmosphere and not mayhem maybe the number of those that fear dentists would be less to none :-).

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me , pick me !!

happy_classroom

So I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been in this place before .. where we’re saying “Ooh! Ooh! pick me ! pick me !” or at least our actions demonstrated it. Maybe in your younger days you tried flagging down your teacher so you could give the correct answer or maybe it was when you were in P.E class and you didn’t want to get picked last. Well that’s the season I’m in now with job employment ….

merida-exhausted

I’ve applied to over 100+ jobs , received about 20 interviews in a year timeframe, talk about EXHAUSTING! My actions are definitely saying “Hey pick me!!” but instead its like having a teacher overlook me on purpose or the P.E teacher skip over me and pick the students that’s  around me . I can honestly say I’ve never been the type to give up easily. I tried out for the cheerleading team for 3 years before I got accepted , in college years I struggled financially . Reflecting on moments like those taught me there are more ways to reach your blessing once you think outside the box.  Now back to the show:::

watching-tv

I watched how people around me got blessed with jobs, my pastor encouraging me every week to believe in faith, but my results still the same. I started questioning myself and feeling guilty after the interviews I had because I  would basically say how I am going to become a dentist . However, I can’t take all the credit..I think God is up to something. My intention with my current job was never to stay as long as I had and my prayer after every interview ” May the best candidate get the position, you know my purpose more than I know myself” . <-Well , I know he will surely answer prayers , that’s a definite lol ! But seriously, a lot of the jobs I applied for , in my mind I figured I would be able to apply some of it towards my overall goal . Interesting, because Isaiah 55:8-9 states “for my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways”. It’s easy to plan a goal but sometimes its not a strategic plan and we need help especially myself! I have a vision board and the jobs I applied for are nowhere near the board, I tell my fiancé I would like to get into dental school by a certain time so how does this all come together?

th7CBI0P7I

By God’s grace. I read so many stories of successful people quitting their jobs to pursue their dreams and watched my peers successfully get new positions. I’ve done everything in my being to change my status but God has the blueprint . Once we get to a point where its exhausting that’s when God steps in and says ” That’s good now let me take it from here” Maybe I didn’t get that full time job because God knows it would be a delay in where I need to be .. To be honest this season is like an interview or ‘prove it to me’ with God. Everything I’ve mentioned in the interviews are being tested in these trial periods. He’s been building my character through interviews, interacting with different personalities, budgeting, being dependable, trustworthy, and  etc  in order to be that dentist I dream about.

So if you are in my shoes now please know you are not being overlooked and what God has in store is bigger than what we  can imagine.  Stay determined because we’re going to be picked soon!

Being too busy..

Outside of work and shadowing dentists I also volunteer as a prayer partner at a local Christian tv station. It’s pretty straightforward : people call from all over and I pray for them.. prayer hotline. On this particular day  one of the prayer partners received a call from a lady that needed prayer for peace because she felt guilty. As the story unravels, the lady felt guilty because her neighbor committed suicide and God told her to see how they were doing the day before however, she was too busy.

I’m not sure about you but I know there have been plenty of times I’ve been too busy. There are times when it seems the hours skip by and I’m still trying to figure out what I want for breakfast. There were times I would be so preoccupied with things and at the end of the day I’ve still accomplished nothing. Somehow my results are different when God is in the equation, my day just seems to flow in balance. A lot of times we won’t have a clue to why he wants us to do something but its our job to go with the flow. (Jeremiah 29:11) “For I know the plans I have for you.. “.  There are so many people throughout the world that needs help and that may be waiting on someone like you and me to do just that. The job you’re seeking , degree you’re going after, business you’re creating is not just to benefit you but to benefit others as well  🙂 . So I challenge you and myself what can we do to help someone else today? Remember beautifuls, you’re never too busy to make a difference .

In less than 130 days..

AshleyMarcus-96  In less than 130 days, I will be getting married to my best friend!! A rollercoaster of thoughts run through my head as I not only prepare for our wedding, my journey to dental school , but the next phase in life !  Growing up I was the child that loved playing with Barbie by myself (including dialogue ), wrote journal entries and poetry to express my feelings. Even as an adult, being able to walk into a quiet apartment after experiencing some of the worst college roommates is like living in a complete luxury.  In less than 130 days all of that will change , there will be a permanent adjustment. I’m believing God is going to take our faith to a whole new level, what I call

IMG_0250 “zip line faith”.  In less than 130 days I become one, where his feelings become my second nature and what seemed difficult during the first segment of our relationship will now be hilarious.  In less than 130 days I will receive what’s been promised for me. There is so much in store for all of us but sometimes it takes stepping out of our comfort zone in order to receive.
